Let’s admit it…first impressions are everything, especially when it comes to buying a new home. { *ahem* SELLERS this is your queue!} Putting a little bit of time and money into the exterior of your home can significantly impact how quickly your home sells as well as generate an increase in home value.
What Is Curb Appeal?
Curb appeal refers to the level of attractiveness one may feel for a property when viewing it from the street. In its simplest form, however, curb appeal is a subjective appreciation for a physical asset. Homes with great curb appeal, for example, are attractive to those viewing them from the street. The house presents itself well and all of the typical components are in place: the yard is well-kept, the paint is vibrant, the siding looks good, the roof is intact, and things are in order.
There are countless ways to add curb appeal, and they don’t necessarily have to break the bank –
Here are 5 of our favs:
Paint the Door: We suggest using a bold color that compliments (rather than clashes with) the exterior color of house.

Fresh House Numbers: Big, Modern house numbers can add that little bit of pop to your otherwise ordinary front entry

Add new door hardware: One of the smallest ways to make a big impact. The door handle is the first thing that the home visitor will simultaneously look at and touch as they walk up to the front door…let’s make the experience impactful!

Clean or Replace Gutters & Downspouts: If your home has an older gutter system, odds are it’s also suffering from peeling paint, rust spots, or other problems that can convey a sense of neglect. Replace old systems with newer, snap-fit vinyl gutter systems that go together with few tools and require no painting.

Light it up! Curb appeal isn’t relegated to daytime hours. Therefore, making sure your home is just as attractive at night as it is during the day will prove beneficial, especially when you add in daylight savings and less daytime for showings in the winter hours. Feel free to add a decorative lamp to your front porch. Simply light up your home at night with attractive lighting and your efforts will be rewarded.
